Writhlington Sports and Leisure Centre has exceptional tennis facilities including a 4 court indoor tennis centre as well as 4 outdoor courts.
Outdoor Courts (available April - September)
An all inclusive tennis membership is available which includes unlimited use of courts, entry to wimbledon ballot, club sessions, tournaments, leagues and matches amongst other benefits. Please click on memberships on the left handside of the screen for further details.
Our mini tennis lesson programme follows the Lawn Tennis Association Mini Tennis Scheme. This scheme motivates children to work through a variety of skills and challenges. There are 3 stages - Red, Orange and Green. We also run Tots for pre-school children from April to October and Tiddler groups for children aged 4 - 5yrs.
Our structure is as follows.
Tiddlers - Tuesday 4.00 - 4.45pm or Saturday 9.15am - 10.00am and 10.15am to 11.00am. Suitable for children age 4 - 5yrs. These classes introduce children to the very basics including movement, sending and receiving skills, basic bounce and hit, body awareness, catching and throwing, running and jumping.
Mini Red Level 2 - Tuesday 4.00pm - 5.00pm or Saturday 9.00am - 10.00am. Suitable for children age 6 - 8 years who are complete beginners or have little experience. This level involves core skills, hand eye co-ordination, movement, developing basic skills of the game, sending and receiving skills, rallying, fun drills and lots of games. Children aged 5 yrs will be able to progress from tiddlers to this group.
Mini Red Level 1 - Tuesday 4.00pm-5.00pm, Thursday 4.00pm to 5.00pm or Saturday 10.00am-11.00am. Suitable for children age 6-8 years who are improvers or have tennis playing experience. This level involves developing core skills, movement, improving basic skills of the game, sending and recieiving skills, rallying, fun drills and lots of games. Entering Mini Red tournaments is encouraged at this level.
Mini Orange Level 2 - Tuesday 5.00pm - 6.00pm or Saturday 10.00am - 11.00am. Suitable for children age 7 - 9 years and above depending on size and ability who have some knowledge of the game normally progressing from Mini Red. Children at this level will learn strokes and techniques to enable them to rally and play the game. Throwing, catching, sending and receiving skills are honed at this level.
Mini Orange Level 1 - Tuesday 5.00pm - 6.00pm or Saturday 11.00am- 12.00 noon. Suitable for children age 7-9 years and above depending on size and ability who have knowledge of the game normally progressing from Mini Orange Level 2. Children at this level will learn strokes and techniques to enable them to rally and play the game. Throwing, catching, sending and recieving skills are honed at this level. Entering Mini Orange tournaments is encouraged at this level.
Green Level - Tuesday 6.00pm - 7.00pm or Saturday 11.00am - 12.00 noon. Suitable for children age 8 - 9 years and above depending on size and ability. Children must have a knowledge of the game and have played before either at school or home and be able to rally on a full tennis court. Children will learn a full range of strokes including forehand, backhand, volleying and serving.
Full Court - Tuesday 6.00pm - 7.00pm 12-15 years, Friday 4.00pm to 5.00pm 11-13 yrs or Saturday 12.00 noon - 1.00pm for 11-13 years. Suitable for children over 11 years, who can rally, have some technical and tactical knowledge of the game.
Development and Performance Squads - At any stage children can be invited to join our development and performance squads which prepare players for competitions and tournaments.

Adults - Daytime coaching groups for ladies are available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. A beginner adults group runs Thursday evening 7.00-8.00pm and on Wednesday evenings from 7.00pm – 9.00pm we have our improvers and intermediate players.
A rusty racket session suitable for players aged 45 or over runs on Tuesday afternoon from 1.30pm - 3.00pm. Beginners and improvers welcome.
Fees will be collected via direct debit monthly in advance. This will make enrolment and payment for classes easier and more affordable as payments will be spread over 12 equal monthly payments. You will also have more control in terms of when you want to stop payments if your child decides they don’t want to continue. A full calender months notice is required in writing for cancellations from customers paying monthly by direct debit for any sports courses.

Club night sessions for Writhlington Tennis members are held on Tuesday (experienced players) and Thursday (beginner and intermediate players) evenings, with monthly men's and ladies coaching sessions held on Friday evenings. Free of charge for Memberplus and Silver members, £5.80 for Bronze members.
Junior Club - Saturday 3.00pm- 4.30pm. Suitable for children aged 12-16 playing with a yellow ball on our coaching programme. Free of charge for Memberplus and Silver members, £5.80 for Bronze/ WSC junior members.
Players in our programme will need to wear comfortable sports clothing avoiding clothes with buckles, poppers, zips or hoods. Children will need to bring separate indoor training shoes as outdoor shoes are NOT permitted on the courts . Jewellery is also NOT permitted in any of our classes for safety reasons. Children with long hair will be asked to tie it back.

Refunds / Credits
Refunds will not be issued for missed sessions or where the child decides they don't want to attend anymore.
Credits will only be issued, at the discretion of the Centre Manager, where a child is unable to attend for more than 2 consecutive weeks due to illness or injury. This must be supported by a doctor's note.
